What is Two-factor authentication (2FA)
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security measure that adds an extra layer of protection to your account.

On the Derek Data Portal, your data is protected with your personal password. But by setting up 2FA, the system requires you to provide a second piece of information before you can access your account.

This second piece of information is an authorization code generated by an external provider of 2FA, typically in an app on your mobile device.

Some of the most popular free providers of this service are Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy.
Why does derek recommend 2FA?
Your data has always been safe and private on the Derek Data Portal.

But enabling 2FA is a small step that makes a big difference in safeguarding your valuable information from unauthorized access or potential breaches due to unfortunate events such as stolen laptops, identity theft, or hacked passwords.
Your privacy and security are our top priorities. Which is why we recommend 2FA.

Make 2FA required for all users with access to your data
If you are a manager and can edit group settings, it is also possible to require 2FA login for all users with access to your groups including subgroups.

When activated, these users will be prompted to implement 2FA authentication when they try to access your data.

This means they will be sent to the guide pictured above when they log in for the first time after you have made this change.
