In this article, we walk through the Examine tool.

You can access Examine from any group on the Derek Data Portal.

Click the tile and the tool will scan the settings of your devices in that group. Select “Include subgroups” to include all devices in subgroups in the overviews well.

What does the Examine tool do?

The Examine tool scans the settings of the devices in your group to give you a visual presentation of how they are configured on key parameters.

These parameters include Transmission intervalsTriggersGPS, and Utilization settings.

Differences in configuration are visualized as slices in a pie chart under each parameter giving you a great overview of differences in key configurations between devices.

You can click a slice to export a list of the devices with that particular setting for further review.

It is also possible to double-click a slice to select this group of devices and open up Multi-edit which enables you to either change or apply additional settings to exactly these devices.

Important to keep in mind

If all settings in a given category are the same, this category will not be displayed in your overview.

If all devices in a given group have identical settings, no charts at all will be visible.

When should I use Examine?

Examine is a great tool to perform a “Settings check” of entire groups of devices.

From the overview, you will be able to see if your required settings are applied to your devices and, if not, easily identify devices with undesirable settings.

It also enables you to change more devices at the same time based on one particular undesirable setting instead of needing to click through to each device to change.
